6:00-7:00 Networking, Introductions, Pizza

7:00-7:45 Presentation 1

John 'Gif' Giffin, Sales Engineer, Apprenda

Application as a First Class Citizen with Apprenda's Platform as a Service.

Starting from a code complete application, we will look at how a development team deploys, scales, and manages an application in a self-service fashion using PaaS. By treating the application, rather than the OS, as the first class citizen, the developer never needs to see a VM, configure for particular machines, or shepherd 50 tickets through 20 teams to get an app out the door. After seeing the developer experience, we will see how an IT operator can manage the underlying pool of capacity and set appropriate deployment policies, allowing security and compliance to trust the developer to make appropriate use of their new-found freedom.

Speaker Bios:

John 'gif' Giffin is a 15-year veteran in the enterprise application development space. He has spent time developing and deploying front and middle office investment banking applications, and today uses that experience to help organizations modernize how they build, deploy, and run their applications. In his copious spare time, he enjoys skiing and Kenpo karate.

About Apprenda: Apprenda is the leading enterprise Platform as a Service (PaaS) powering the next generation of enterprise software development in public, private and hybrid clouds. As a foundational software layer and application run-time environment, Apprenda abstracts away the complexities of building and delivering modern software applications, enabling enterprises to turn ideas into innovations faster. With Apprenda, enterprises can securely deliver an entire ecosystem of data, services, applications and APIs to both internal and external customers across any infrastructure. From the world’s largest banks like JPMorgan Chase to healthcare organizations including McKesson and AmerisourceBergen, Apprenda’s clients are part of a new class of software-defined enterprises, disrupting industries and winning with software.

7:45-8:00 Short Break for Networking

8:00-8:45 Presentation 2

dMitri DeVos, Director of Solutions Engineering, Internap

John Fidler, Solutions Engineer, Internap

OpenStack and Orchestration: The Evolution Of Legacy IT to DevOps

We will start with al focus on Orchestration; both the "legacy IE" model and DevOps. This includes discussion of tools such as Chef, Pupper, Ansible, etc... Then we will dive into OpenStack; the fundamental architecture and some diagrams. This will be followed by an OpenStack/Orchestration demo of a deployment of an Agile Cloud 2.0 instance through Chef. And at the end we will quickly introduce the Internap Cloud Portal with a quick demo.

Speaker Bios:

dMitri Devos
dMitri DeVos is a 15 year veteran in IT and Dev Ops. He is so old… he remembers the early days when cloud wasn’t called cloud but was ASP (Application Service Providers). His forte is building and managing high transaction IT infrastructure and was an early adopter of Agile Methodology in Operations. His industry experience ranges from search engine optimization, financial services, online banking, mobile entertainment and most recently IaaS providers. dMitri is known for wearing black all year round and is often chided for his channeling of Johnny Cash!

John Fidler
John Fidler has spent the past 15 years in the IT industry, handling everything from desktop support to serving as IT Manager for a software and services company servicing a SaaS operation that also had numerous high profile government agencies as onsite customers. John has spent the past 3 ½ years at Internap as a Solutions Engineer, parlaying those experiences into helping customers define and execute on their strategic plans through use of various infrastructure platforms.

About Internap: Internap is the high-performance Internet infrastructure provider that powers the applications shaping the way we live, work and play.
