Debugging Techniques for a Virtual Environment
Various virtualization products and other deployment technologies used by IT Professionals to provide desktops and applications involve the use of function hooking and filter mode drivers to trick the OS into doing what they want. That's great when everything works, but turns into a liability when things break down. This is especially true when more than one of these products/technologies are used in tandem, as neither expects the other to be playing in their ball-yard.
In this session, you will learn the basics of how these products and technologies perform their magic, and a series of techniques useful to debug issues. This includes new ways to use Procmon in these environments, as well as even more powerful tools when needed.
Tim is the President of VirtG and owns TMurgent Technologies along with his wife, Mary Jane. TMurgent dabbles in Microsoft App-V and other virtualization products.
