The Portfolio Approach: Addressing the Complexities of a Multi Cloud Environment

Photo: Humphereys2014 has been touted by analysts and technologists as the year of the hybrid cloud, but in fact, it will more likely be the year of the multi-cloud environment. The truth is that the cloud is not a one-size-fits-all solution and with service providers coming to this realization, they are beginning to create cloud solutions whose environments are focused on the specific requirements of those services – specialized cloud services like desktop as a service, disaster recovery as a service, security as a service, etc. As a result of the increase of specialized services, the environment that end user organizations end up managing will include their own private cloud as well as various specialized cloud services from a number of providers. This multi-cloud environment is more than just a hybrid environment, and can present additional complexities.

Company Bio:

Founded in March 2000 by the CTO of Goldman Sachs, Egenera provides a comprehensive cloud management platform that is being used by both enterprise IT and service providers alike to transform static infrastructure into flexible cloud services and provide instant access to the computing resources users and customers require. The solution enables users to quickly create scalable, secure and highly reliable private, public and cloud services. Egenera Cloud Suite was designed to support business and mission-critical applications as well as test, development and less-demanding environments. Unlike other cloud solutions, with Egenera there is no unnecessary vendor lock-in - users can choose the storage, servers, applications, hypervisors, and operating systems that work best for their end user requirements. With its ability to dynamically provision physical as well as virtual servers, Egenera Cloud Suite lets organizations run databases and applications that are not well suited to running in virtual machines. Many of these applications also require the highest levels of availability and disaster recovery— which Egenera Cloud Suite delivers through its unique N+1 HA and DR features. Companies around the globe use Egenera to manage and protect their mission-critical business services, including some of the world’s leading cloud service providers, financial services firms, healthcare  organizations and government agencies.

Scale Computing

Advancing your business in a Hyperconverged IT world

Photo: HowellThe discussion will revolve around organizations that are leaving the "Do it Yourself" (DIY) approach behind to leap into a fully integrated Hyperconverged solution. We'll dig into the easiest ways to build a virtualized infrastructure. The goal is to help organizations minimize the buying, building and integration of complex compute infrastructure. This helps make the business much more competitive; integrated compute infrastructure delivers on this goal. Less training, less time and resources required to maintain computing environments means better return on investment. Does anyone really have the staff in place to deliver on all the IT goals? The emergence of Hyperconverged architectures can make this a reality. Computing should make a business or organization competitive and responsive to their clients and users. Hyperconverged solutions are leading the way.

Speaker Bio:

Howell comes to Scale Computing from Azul Systems, where he was the Director of Channel Sales. A serial channel development executive with over 20 years of experience with venture backed startups holding roles ranging from business development to sales. Howell has a strong track record of creating successful channel programs that have contributed to overall company success. Previously he was at Splunk, serving as the Relationship Manager to Microsoft.  He has also held similar roles at MailFilters, Borderware, Teneros, and DotNEtNuke.

Company Bio:

Scale Computing integrates storage, servers, and virtualization software into an all-in-one appliance based system that is scalable, self-healing and as easy to manage as a single server. Using industry standard components, the HC3 TM appliances install in under an hour, and can be expanded and upgraded with no downtime. High availability insulates the user from any disk or server failure and a unified management capability driven by the patented Ultra-Easy Hyperocre Software TM , efficiently integrates all functionality. The result is a data center solution that reduces operation complexity, allows a faster response to business issues, and dramatically reduces costs.
